Horrified By Haiti ( And Why I’m Boycotting NBC )

You can’t escape the footage of the devastation in Haiti… And I don’t think you should, remember earthquakes are our problem too! Sure our building have greater structural integrity and we have better emergency response resources, but we’ve seen buildings fall, freeways collapse and fires ravage after a quake.  To watch the footage of parents carrying the bodies of their children through the streets, it breaks your heart.  There are many ways to help, but I always feel like the Red Cross is a good place to start, right now you can Send a $10 donation by texting ‘Haiti’ to 90999 .

As I watched the news, I was struck again by the importance of social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and flickr …  These sites are some of the only ways people in Haiti have had to communicate with the outside world, and were the source of many of the first images mainstream media aired.  I often run into to people who discount Twitter and refuse to accept it’s importance, but look at recent history, I think the people of Iran and Haiti would disagree with these naysayers.   It’s true that most tweets are unimportant trivia (which I still love to read!), but when unrest or tragedy strikes, it’s importance shines bright.

Speaking of Twitter, I keep forgetting to mention, Kevin Nominated us for a shorty award, here’s how you vote: The Shorty Awards: http://www.shortyawards.com/jackandstretch
To have your vote count you have to be logged into twitter.com and have a open/ non private twitter account and you have to put a reason after the BEACUSE. I nominated you guys under innovation for the podcast.

Also, The Pod has a new “drunk dial Line”… although you can call it and leave any kind of message you want!  Complain, suggest, report, disagree… whatever you want, (I have to set up the voice mail, but I think you can start leaving messages right away) it’s (818) 253-1360.  Put it in your cell memory, so you can leave us messages from where ever your at!

Also, keep forgetting to mention a cool art show out in Hesperia on Jan 23rd, click here for info.

I have been laying low this week, I’ve been in a weird mood.  It looks like I may be working (Not in radio) soon and this has raised many new problems and emotions… That I won’t get into now, but I’ll fill you in some day.  I did have a great conversation with someone yesterday, she was highly motivating and is helping me start my own project which I am really excited about… More detail to come on that soon too.

It’s amazing how little things can cheer you up, I twit pic’ed it yesterday, but I found a Ronald McDonald 6lb bowling ball on ebay for cheap, so I got it for Bing.  He hasn’t seen it yet, but it made me happy…. There’s just something about getting someone something they’ll really love!

Here we blame coyotes. No free ride for Tiger.  Just in case you needed more reasons to hate Pat Robertson. There is no joy in this joy ride.    She needs a brain lift. Dexter has cancer!  A sad day for punks. See, we’re not cavemen.

On a side note, until we see how this whole Conan/Leno thing pans out I’m not using NBC LA as a news source anymore, I really feel that the NBC Network is the Clear Channel of TV, making decisions based on the cheapest cost without regard to audience desires (Who are their customers)… And when their costing cutting ideas fail, they continue to screw the talent in which they employee and the people who tune into their programming.    Biggest Loser isn’t just a show on NBC, it’s what their employees and viewers are!

Rock on, Jack
