Now I Know I’m Old
I actually think the new Buick’s look cool… That officially makes me an old man right? Bing would be so upset, he’s really hung up on Mustangs currently.
Jay Leno was Oprah today (Yes, I watched Oprah), It made me like him less. He’s trying to repair his image, but to me it came off as insincere and calculated. He skirted the issue of his failure in prime time and how it dragged the 11p news and ultimately Conan’s ratings down as his ratings tanked. And Oprah kind of kissed his ass.
I had a really good time last night, a friend took me out for my birthday… It was nice to have some adult time, especially after the stress of the last weekend!
Speaking of last weekends stress, The latest report is that Bing is feeling much better and hasn’t needed any pain killer the last couple days! We go to the bone doctor tomorrow to get the break checked out… So I’ll know more tomorrow.
I stopped by the CRN today, I miss them, they’re like family to me. It looks like Jennifer Horn, Eric Horn and I might host a wine show together, the focus will be on affordable wines for the younger, less snouty drinker.
Johnson crashes during practice. Stop or I’ll staple you! The author of my favorite book died, R.I.P. J.D. Just a little bit. Pup on ice. Smart baby! At least he wasn’t choking his chicken. Hey freeway, look at me! I want this.
Rock On, Jack

I plan to watch Oprah tonight, I recorded it and was interested in what he had to say about all of this.
Glad you found some time for a little fun. Even more glad that Bing is not hurting so much. Kids adapt so well, we could really take a lesson from them (well some of us take a lot of lessons from them)

Hey Jack! Happy Belated Birthday!
I’m glad Bing is doing much better. Poor little guy.
Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books too. Although…did you know he was kind of douchey? I didn’t realize it went beyond some of the quirky behavior leaked into the media. His kid (daughter), wrote a memoir that paints a pretty tragic family story. Knowledge of some of the sordid details kind of ruined my memory of Catcher In The Rye.

I’m glad you went out for your birthday. I am also glad that you got along so well with the people at CRN. I do hope you do that wine show cause I’m definitely a wine lover and not a snooty person at all.

I’m tired of the News and Conan blaming Leno for THEIR failed ratings. You’re your own show…if you’re good, you’ll get people to watch. Even with news, I’m loyal to Fox 11…I cringe anytime JS talks about Channel 5 news, Krisky and Rubin and the rest of those clowns suck! Fox 11 news rules! Leno rules! And Conan USE to rule from 12:35 – 1:35 am. Conan got greedy.

Chris, You know I love you… If for no other reason than I see naked women when I’m with you, but the “Lead In” is very important in radio and TV, and If Jay did nothing else he proved this. After his prime time show began, some local news casts saw ratings drops of almost 50% ( Philly for example dropped 48% – source EW magazine), now they didn’t change their newscast from when Law & Order or some other drama lead into them and yet their rating drop. I agree that some people are loyal, but way more just leave it on the station they were watching. Conan was a victim of this to some extend too, if jay makes the news before you lose 50%, that’s 50% less audience to stay tuned to you, or see the tease as to the guests you’re going to have on. And lets not forget the obvious, if Jay was so great why couldn’t he pull decent rating in prime time? (When there is actually the potential for larger audiences, which should have made it easier than getting people to stay up to 11:35!)

Jack ~ Glad you got to go out and celebrate your big day! We all need that grown up time occasionally…..I am also happy to hear about your little man’s finger getting better! He is such a cutie…..but you have skirted the issue of….how did the interview go?
I usually don’t comment on others thoughts, but Chris….you are so wrong about Conan and Leno…..Leno tanked because people would rather watch the news than him, then Conan had no good lead in show before his new time slot…see….the viewers had already changed the channel to watch their local news….and sorry to inform you that the viewer demographics in the east are counted more importantly than out in Cali….you’re not really that important Chris Bruin, maybe you are just too old for Conan …. the greedy ones were NBC & Leno and we will all see him fail again….I promise he will bring NBC ratings down with him before summer…..it’s time to let other, younger talents shine, he’s so 2009………Conan will be the ruler come September!
Jack – you are so right on about Leno being insincere, and Oprah is turning out just like him……money & fame tainted both of them, whether Oprah ever admits it or not. Sometimes you just need to know when it’s time to quit. Too bad…..
Rock on! We love your blog Jack! The wine thing sounds intriguing, go for it! We will come!

A wine show, Jack? How great. When I lived in England, there was this guy, Malcolm Gluck (great name for a wine critic,) who did a wine column called “Superplonk” (Supermarket + Brit slang for wine) for the Guardian and it was hugely popular. I learned a lot about wine from that guy and even bought his book. We are in love with the Foxbrook wines sold in Save Mart in Central/Northern California which sells for $23.98 a case – even better than Two Buck Chuck. You live in the best place in the United States, we have our own version of the European Wine lake but a lot of the wine here is produced by small vinters so it’s actually really good quality, they just don’t have the means to market it. It used to just be Trader Joe’s that brought these wines to the consumer but everyone, even Walmart, is doing it now. I see real possibilities and a lot of fun for you in this. Bottoms up!
By the way, do you still like SOYJOY? We just came out with Blueberry and it is awesome. Let me know if you want me to send you some.

wow another wine show on crn? They have a few already. This one should be interesting, for us beginner/non-snobby wine enthusiasts. Hope it goes well. I like Jenn and Eric, they’re fun. I didn’t know you were into wine, Jack. Thought it was only vodka

Update: I really hate “liking’ Jay Leno after his appearance on Oprah. He didnt help his cause there. I’m still not buying the lead in thing…OVERRATED!!!…only time I tune in to CBS is to watch football…as soon as it’s over…*click*…the product takes me to CBS, not whatever is on before. This whole lead in thing is like saying people are too stupid to change the channel. But, hmmm…facts are facts…maybe people ARE that stupid…or have TVs that they have to get up to change the channel, (ah, those were the days!) However, I ONLY see how that could affect the news. News…if you want ratings (btw, there’s something so sad about wanting ratings for a news program)…sex it up a bit more. LOL. BTW, Jack, the hot FOX newscaster girl you couldnt think a name of was either, Suzanne Marquez (my fav) or Lauren Sanchez….Lisa Breckinridge is a cutie too. Conan show is more like football…no matter what’s on before it…it’ll carry itself. From what I understood, both Conan and Leno maintained the same ratings they had pre-Conan taking over…to me, it looks like they kept their same viewers without gaining any newer ones.
In the end, this was all bad for both Leno and NBC who’ll both lose viewers…Conan may look like he got screwed, but in the end, this’ll be the BEST thing to ever happen to him.
Connie, I dont mind (actually, I dont think Jack minds either)…that’s what makes replying boards fun…replying to everyone that is. I actually like Conan, he just doesnt fit in with NBC…he’ll do great on Comedy Central as a lead in for Jon Stewart…or lead out for Colbert. I’ll keep TIVOing it all.
