I Know The Bird Has Yet To Be Carved…

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

But we’re already in full on Holiday mode… If you don’t believe me just walk into any store.  And the 38 degree weather in the valley this morning made it feel like the holidays.  I am kidless through Thanksgiving, so I have made it my goal to have my place decorated by the time they return…  Now to see if I actually pull that off.

I had a good solo weekend.  Friday the Magnolia Park area of Burbank had a big holiday kick off street party… I have to say it was an excellent event.  Burbank has a history of some cheesy events (Burbank on Parade for example), but this was really well done.  They blocked off all of Magnolia from Hollywood Way to Buena Vista and the street was full of Burbankians getting in the holiday mood.

On Saturday I decided to take myself to a concert, I very rarely get to go to shows anymore and it is something that I love to do.  I saw Bob Mould (ex – Husker Du and Sugar) at The Bootleg Theater (which I highly recommend, it’s supper small).  I guess that’s one of the benefits of getting older, bands you liked when you were young are no longer playing huge venues to thousands, you get to enjoy small, intimate shows.

My sister and Ethan returned from Australia yesterday, so I’m sure she’ll be posting tons of photos soon… I know they has encounters with koalas and kangaroos, but haven’t heard their stories of The Great Barrier Reef yet.

This is horrible, I’ve seen (drunk) adults almost fall from there too.   Stench would do this if she provided Hot Wings!  Here’s a big surprise.    You know he hooked this up through Facebook!  Jake is the walrus.   Problem solved.   Why didn’t they mooooove?

Rock on, Jack

So Lucy and I rode one!

It’s A Big Week…

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

And not because of the midterm elections, a Fed announcement and crucial unemployment figures… Because we just wrapped Halloween and now we are days away from the kids birthdays! (Lucy’s is Sunday and Bing’s Monday).
Halloween was great, the kids had a blast. It started Friday with a costume parade at Lucy’s school and a party at Aunt Angela’s work, Line 6.  Saturday it was soccer and then another Halloween party.  Sunday, Halloween, we spent the day at The Pierce College Harvest Festival and the evening Trick or Treating through Burbank with friends.  The kids always love the holiday and this year was no exception.

I’ve been spending this week getting ready for the big 7/4 celebration.  We’re doing Knott’s on Friday and then a small party on Saturday.  Time flies, my babies aren’t babies anymore!  You know how a song can remind you of a time and place?  At work there are a bunch of syndicated all music formats, in the studio next to mine is a top 40 station.  As I walked to the kitchen to make a cup of tea I heard J-Kwon Everybody In The Club Gettin’ Tipsy… As lame as that song is, it was on the radio all the time when Lucy was a baby and it totally made me think of that little blob of a baby that sat in a carrier in the backseat of the car sleeping or making random noises…  Who how sits in the backseat of the car quizzing me on why Katy Perry didn’t want to marry me (Not that I ever proposed to Katy Perry… Or have even met her!?!?)

Now she will be 7 and Bing 4, it’s just crazy how fast the time goes bye!

I usually bake the kids a special themed birthday cake for their big day.  This year I have been short on time, so I think I’m going to make cookie cakes… They’re just easier to make and decorate.

Today is my P.E. Volunteer day… It has been a lot of fun, first graders actually listen and appreciate that you’re there.

I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of bummed by the election results, not because of the Republican victories (It’s no secret I’m a Democrat), but because of the Tea Party victories.  They have some skewed economic views, extreme religious convictions (I have no problem with religion… I just don’t think it should be mixed with politics, not everyone you are governing has the same beliefs as you!) and too ultra conservative for my liking (Even Carl Rove spoke out against some of the Tea Party candidates).   I understand times are bad (I was unemployed for a year and a half and my Mom has been out of work for over 6 months), but the reaction to the extreme right was not the right answer in my opinion.  Anyway, enough of my bitching!

Downey!  She’ll be 28 when her kid goes to college!  Obviously Stench didn’t get to vote.  Aliens free to roam.  Lame: Happy Meal ban.  Congrats… I think?  Way to go Grandpa.

Rock on Jack
