Two Weeks In…

Friday, February 26th, 2010

In starting to get into the swing of things after completing my second week at CRN.  It has not only been challenging, but a lot of fun being there… I think we’re going to kick some a**!

The kids are coming over after not being here much over the last couple weeks, it will be so good to spend some time with them.  Lucy has already requested that we go to our favorite restaurant tonight for dinner… We have “our” table there and she gets really upset if it’s taken when we get there, we then have to sit somewhere else and move when it opens.

I have had the opportunity to spend some time with old friends lately which has been really cool.  There are reasons your friends are friends, and you realize that when you reconnect and it’s like there was never a gap.

I can’t lie to you guys, the pod is struggling a little bit (Not because of content, I feel like it’s never been better and I have never had more fun doing it!  I actually look forward to my nightly hour with stench and your emails, texts and phone messages)… It has more to do with the subscribers we lost you have not returned and the economy.  So many people have written me to tell me they’ve been out of work for a long time ( I get it!) or just having a hard time financially ( I get that one too!) and have had to cancel.  It breaks my heart that so many people out there are struggling.  Hopefully, we can get through this and rock our third year of the pod!

Alina should look into this.  That’s an expensive lamb.  You do crazy stuff after having a 40!  The cross dressing Pitt.  Alot of bikini’s in the news today.  That’s now much a pillow fight costs!  Don’t throw puppies… Especially into traffic!  It’s Grandma’s fault.

Who’s There?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

So, Last night I’m sitting on my couch, watching Lost, minding my own business, when the fire alarm goes off.  Now that happens all the time around here, usually in the middle of the night, so I didn’t think anything of it.  All of the sudden, there was a knock on my door, and before I could say “Who’s There?” our building security guard burst into my apartment!  Mental note: Lock door from now on!!!  It was cool though, he really thought I was on fire (Not the way Stench does!), I guess there was a lot of smoke in the hall right in front of my door, the fire department actually showed up shortly after.  Now there was kind of an embarrassing part of this all, but I talk about it on the pod, so I won’t repeat.

I realized last night as I watched TV that when the news teases a story they actually do themselves a disservice.  If they tease something that I’m actually interested in, I instantly look it up on my computer… And by the time the news comes on I already know the story and don’t have to watch.

Lost was really good last night, it’s so cool it’s back.

I’m excited to go to San Diego this weekend, I have to admit it’s a great city, if my life wasn’t in total turmoil when I was there I think I could have really enjoyed it…  And I have good memories of hanging with Tony and Kris there.

It’s rumored that “Snookie” from Jersey Shore has a sex tape… Does anyone want to see this!?!?!  Actually, that goes for anyone on the show…  I think I’ve seen the “Situation’s” stomach more than my own!

Still no update on the wine show Jen, Eric and I talked about doing on the CRN… I’ll have to start bugging them again, I really want to do it.

What happened to being mellow when you’re stoned?  You can cure Cancer.  AZ hates sexting!  Shock-A-Cone shocker. Gas rage.  I bet they didn’t bet on this happening.  Twinkie thief! She likes Tiger balls, but hates golf balls!  Mannequin busted!  This is sad.  He made a bad choice.  Something else you can write off your taxes.

Now I Know I’m Old

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

I actually think the new Buick’s look cool…  That officially makes me an old man right?  Bing would be so upset, he’s really hung up on Mustangs currently.

Jay Leno was Oprah today (Yes, I watched Oprah), It made me like him less.  He’s trying to repair his image, but to me it came off as insincere and calculated.  He skirted the issue of his failure in prime time and how it dragged the 11p news and ultimately Conan’s ratings down as his ratings tanked.  And Oprah kind of kissed his ass.

I had a really good time last night, a friend took me out for my birthday… It was nice to have some adult time, especially after the stress of the last weekend!

Speaking of last weekends stress, The latest report is that Bing is feeling much better and hasn’t needed any pain killer the last couple days!  We go to the bone doctor tomorrow to get the break checked out… So I’ll know more tomorrow.

I stopped by the CRN today, I miss them, they’re like family to me.  It looks like Jennifer Horn, Eric Horn and I might host a wine show together, the focus will be on affordable wines for the younger, less snouty drinker.

Johnson crashes during practice.  Stop or I’ll staple you!  The author of my favorite book died, R.I.P. J.D.  Just a little bit.  Pup on ice.  Smart baby!  At least he wasn’t choking his chicken.  Hey freeway, look at me!  I want this.

For What I’m Worth…

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I’ve been feeling pretty worthless lately due to my financial situation… Which got me thinking what are we really worth, now I’m horrible at math (Which is why I didn’t pursue a science degree, if I had I’d probably still be a useful member of society… Damn you Chemistry!), so lets see how this works.

We’ll start with a known value, my worth to my Ex ( $$$ ), she has made it known that money is her number one priority, and I pay her every month… I actually have to respect that at least I know exactly where I stand with her and no one wants me to succeed more, because it means more money for her.  Then there is my value to my kids, I know this is an unmeasurable number and that this value will only increase with their age, but currently if asked Lucy would rank me somewhere around a Littlest Pet Shop toy and Bing, I would think, would put me on par with a bowling ball ( LP/BB ).  How about the blog?  There is some value in this, I think it is about as important as the show Dirtiest Jobs, it’s mildly entertaining and you take away some useless information (Rowe ).  Friends and Family is probably a negative number in my equation because I get more than I give… I’m kind of draining! (- Drama )  And what about my value to society?  Well, I’ve been out of work for over a year and really haven’t contributed much. ( – EDD ) Finally, there is my value to me… I like me, I think I’m a pretty good person (That doesn’t mean I’m proud of everything I’ve done, but overall, there are way worse people out there ). ( Me! )

So I think this woud be the math:

$$$ + LP/BB + Rowe – Drama – EDD + Me! = Jack

That’s enough math!  In other news, I forgot to mention a few things on yesterday’s blog.  First, my friends Tony and Kris are back on the radio!  If you like country music you have to check out their syndicated show.  I so happy that people I like are back on the radio, it gives me hope that’ll happen for some of the rest of us.  Also, I have to admit that The Erik and Jack Attack over on CRN is growing on me… I love that they have some fight in them and they give us crap right back, it really makes it more fun for us!

Bob’s Big Boy tonight (Sun Valley location 6-10p)… I’ll post some pics!  Meet the Love Boss in person and see how many Big Boy Combos Stench can kill off!

Floating cops.  Not much of a Ninja! Q: Who still writes letters? A: perverts! This happens way too often! Stench’s great, great, great , great, great, great, great grand mummy. Jackson accusers Dad kills self.  Don’t fight with this guy.  This guy really hates weed.  Lucy would think this was cool.  I’ll see your knife and raise you a bench.

Halloween Week

Monday, October 26th, 2009

It’s all about Halloween this week!  On the CRN show we have psychic Vicky King , a playboy bunny on Tuesday talking about cigars (Not really Halloween themed, but she does wear a bunny costume) and The First Annual Jack and Stretch Halloween Costume Contest live at our CRN studios on Friday!

Lucy and Bing are so excited to sport their costumes and get some candy…  OK, so am I!

Went for a bike ride yesterday, the weather has been so great.  I rode around Lake Balboa, good bike paths and not too many people.  There were a lot of people on fixed gear bikes, which is cool because it means people are getting back into cycling… but sucked because the people riding them are not very skilled and do not ride safely.

Come quick, there’s a stripper on the bus.  Maybe they were reading my blog?  Roach mouth.  That’s a lot of hummus. More reasons credit cards suck.  Scientology quitter.  More evidence that David Spade is a douche.  Cheater gets fired.  Told you that you can get anything on Ebay.  Is that a snake in your pocket or…

I’m Back… Or at least I hope!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

The modem and router are hooked up waiting the arrival of my DSL signal… Which is supposed to happen at 8p.  So, blogging should not be a problem!

Bing (AKA Bowling Girl… AKA Polka Dot Bowling Girl) is obsessed with his bowling shoes that I found for him.  Ebay is a parents dream, you can find anything there, like say brand new toddler size 8 rental bowling shoes, with the little “8″ on the back heel, they rule!

Lucy and I made brownies the other night… I’d say about half the ingredients made it into the bowl, the other half are spread all over my kitchen, but it was fun, so what the heck.

The kids carved pumpkins last night, well kind of, I found these mallet things at Target where you nail plastic pegs into the pumpkin… Kind of like a pumpkin Light Bright.   Way easier for the under 6 crowd!

If you haven’t heard already, our Halloween Party has been canceled… So we’re inviting anyone who wants to come down in costume (or not) to the CRN Studios on Friday the 30th for a costume contest and live broadcast from 8-10p.  There is nothing more spooky than Halloween Eve in Sun-Land.

Wow, new Night Stalker news.  Tomas is going to be upset.  Oh Ya, avoid the chest!  Easy come, easy go.  I already thought this was covered!?!?  Don’t you hate it when your wife shows you up.  Sorry, no nakey time!  Good news dreamers!  Your dog is not green!!!

So Cool…

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Stretch spoke with Gary Spivey today, and he is going to be a guest on our CRN show…  Maybe as soon as tonight!  Gary is great, if you believe or not he’s still amazing.

Went to Tomas’ local watering hole last night… I give a full review on the Pod, so I won’t bore you with repeating it here, lets just say it was eventful.

Spoke with Lucy and Bing last night, Lucy can never remember if she learned anything at school (See, she does take after Dad) and Bing and I had a nice conversation about Mini Coopers, Smart Cars, PT Cruisers, Buggie Cars and Limos (His favorite cars, we play a game spotting them anytime we drive somewhere)…  He did crack me up when he stopped speaking with me and said “SHHHHHH, I’m talking on the phone” to his Mom.

Things have got a little better around the apartment building… The Wi-Fi is back, but the hot tub is still a cold tub.

I’ve been lazy, the weather got cool and my motivation to workout has dwindled…  I need to get off my a** and back into the gym.

This guy shot his wife and dog and he gets to go back and work in radio?  This did not happen in Sun-Land.  That’s one long dog.  It’s OK with me if this guy gets the death penalty.  Maybe he dropped an Oreo and was just frantically looking for it!  Is this really news?  Don’t show this to Lucy, she’ll want it!  Stretch needs one of these! He was just drawn to it. Return the lung!

Halfway through September…

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

This year is flying bye… Slow down, what’s the hurry!?!? It’s always kind of empty the day after the kids leave, you go from noise and craziness to quite and loneliness. I did get a nice long walk in and spent some time sitting at my table at Panera at Chandler and Lankershim watching the valley walk past. Kanye has been the talk of the town… Let’s just all agree, he’s a douche bag! Did you watch the new primetime Jay Leno? Stretch and I stayed at CRN to watch, it was good, although not really different from the old tonight show and I think in a few weeks the novelty will fade and people will want to watch scripted shows… Although, I could be wrong? I have to admit, I’m still enjoying Conan, I find him very funny and witty.

You may want to skip that shower.  Terror raid in NYC.  Congrats Colin.  Another good line-up for the Bridge School Benefit.  What a weird, gross story.  Where did I leave that kid?  That was a big fire!  Even Obama hates Kanye.  Don’t steal bikes.

8/24/09 The Fine Art Of Disappointment

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Life is unfair… We’ve all heard it, heck we’ve all experienced it.  In the past year and a half I’ve had more disappointment than I care to recount, but you hate to see your kids realize this is how things go.  You don’t want them to be spoiled, but you also don’t want to see their little hearts broken.  So you try and handle the big ones as gently as possible… “Why can’t you and Mommy live together?” “Why did your Grandma in the wheel chair go to heaven?”  And trust me, I’m not perfect, I answered them the best I could.  But it seems lately there have been a wave of tiny disappointments, the type that put a damper on the fun you were looking forward too.  Oddly, they have really surrounded food.  I told you all on the CRN (and Twitter… and Myspace) how Mc Donald’s screwed the kids on the Happy Meals the other night…  The toy is the draw for those otherwise boring meals, so when they leave the kids with a box only containing the crappy food it’s a let down.  Then we went to Denny’s and they changed their kids menu, no more mini-hot dogs (Lucy’s favorite) or grilled cheese (A Bing must have), they were bummed, but I explained that sometimes they need to change the menu.  Then last night, Bob’s Big Boy… The Bob’s that has been Lucy’s favorite place to go since she was old enough to have an opinion, the place she and I would go for a “Daddy and Me” dinner while her Mom worked, the first real place she recognized on sight (Which ended our meals at Mo’s, it’s across the street within eyesight of Bob’s, so Lucy would have no part of being in the hood and not hitting BBB.)  When I asked them where the wanted to go eat last night the vote was 100% Bob’s.  We walked in, Lucy and Bing requested different color balloons and then we were sat by the “Bob” inside.  Two kids menus and one breakfast menu (I like their eggs)…  And no more hot dog on the kids menu.  I know hot dogs are unhealthy and generally full of gross stuff, but it was what Lucy ordered there for the last 4+ years.  She was really bummed, but I think I was more upset… I know things change, we get unmarried, we grow older, we lose things, but why this?  Why ruin the thing my children and I look forward too, an evening of laughs and full tummies at our favorite place.  Lucy was a trooper, after quizzing the server on where the hot dogs were she ordered plain noodles she looked at me and said “at least we can have fudge cake.”

We will have other favorites and menus will continue to change, but on that Monday evening on a warm August day we lost a tiny family tradition.
