First Blog of 2012

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

This year has started with some Jamie, Jack and Stench news (Well, not Jack news and not the three of us together, but there is news!)

First, Jamie (White) is returning to the airwaves! She will be joining BJ and Howie on ALICE in Denver, CO.  This is doubly exciting for me, one because I’m glad to see Jamie working again and two because it’s good to actually see a radio station adding staff and not firing or down-sizing.  KALC will be airing the new line-up with Jamie starting Monday, January 9th.

Second, Stench’s son has his first MMA fight on January 14th!  He will be fighting at the Normandie Casino on the 14th and tickets are $50 (click link for details.)  Also, we are very close to being able to hear the radio show Stench produces on L.A. Radio. They will be on mornings soon, I’ll post when they officially announce.

As for me… Not much going on, but I am so happy for my friends!

The kids and I had a very nice holiday season, spending Christmas in Burbank and ringing in the New Year in San Diego.  Now it’s back to reality.  There is a depression that sets in after the holidays, all the hype and expectation and then it’s just over and everything returns to the way it was.  I’m hoping the job market gets better for me and many of my friends who are out of work (And I think we’ll see a little bit of improvement… It’s an election year, even if falsely, they will try to make things look better).

Look for a book review early next week (I took a break from reading over the holidays) and more of my usual posts.

Happy New Year and Rock On, Jack

Back-Forwards

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

That’s what Lucy and Bing call rewinding… “Back-Forwards.”  If something particularly amusing happens on TV I hear the chant of “back-foreward it, back-forward it!”  (This can happen multiple times during the “mini-movie” Banana on The Despicable Me DVD)  It’s always great to see them enjoying something and really laughing, so I never mind back-forwarding.

Now in life it’s a different story…  It seems like I have been back-forwarding for years now.  Unemployment, divorce, unemployment again… and then again, it’s been a lot of rewinding.  I briefly felt like life might be on “play” again… I had a job, was able to pay my expenses and have a little left over to enjoy time with the kids, and that was OK.  I’m not looking to fast-forward or even skip a chapter ahead, at this point I’d be happy with “pause”, just maintaining life where it is right now.

I know that it takes true perseverance to get up after being knocked down…  But I also understand how exhausting it is to repeatedly get up just to be knocked down again.  It sometime seems that no matter how much you dance around the ring you just can’t avoid those knock-down punches.

I’m not trying to get rich or build an empire… just keep a 2 bedroom apartment in Burbank, make the payment on a small import car and keep some food in the fridge, who thought that would be so hard?

I did have a nice long weekend.  The kids and I were able to get a lot in and we saw a bunch of friends we hadn’t seen in a long time.  The unusual hours I had for the past year had really kept me out of touch with many of my friends. The kids were able to get some swimming in, which is like winning the lottery to a 4 and 7 year old…  They’re still upset that I moved out of that horrible North Hollywood apartment because it had a pool and a hot tub (Bing is a man of leisure, he enjoys a nice hot tub and a snifter of apple juice!)

The podcast continues on… Although Stench had a minor relapse over the weekend and we were almost back on “Just jack Pods”…  which are painful for everyone!  Alina still joins us often (she is feeling much better!) and we may have a live pod event soon!

I’m sure everyone knows by now, but if you haven’t checked out Groupon yet you should… They have great deals, the kids and I have done so many things we have purchased there.

And if you haven’t yet, check out my guys Tony and Kris….  Besides being great guys and country music insiders, I love that they bucked the system and started their own syndicated show after being let go from Clear Channel San Diego.  Go Tony and Kris!

Rock on, Jack

M.I.A.

Sorry, I’ve been missing for a few days… Just wasn’t in the blogging mood.

I am not a perfect parent, I try really hard, but far from perfect.  I wasn’t a great husband, I tried, but I didn’t do everything right (Not that it all was my fault).  I am a good employee, I always have been.  Hard worker, dedicated, quick to adapt…  That’s what is so frustrating, I know I am a solid worker, and yet no work.  A year of unemployment beats you down, I would like to go back to work now!  I wish it was that easy, to just post it in a blog and have it happen.  Well, I will continue to apply… and continue to receive my rejection letters.

On an upbeat note, the kids birthday’s are this weekend!  Lucy turns 6 and Bing 3…  Although, Lucy has informed me that she does not want to be six!  So I told her she could be 5+1…  It didn’t really help, but at least I tried.  Bing want a “huge bowling set” for his birthday… You would think he’d be happy with the two sets he already has, there are pins and balls all over my apartment.

I have two un-carved pumpkins sitting here staring at me…  I thought about making pie, but it seems really involved.  So, my plan B is to toss them off my balcony…  There is just something fun about throwing stuff off a balcony.

Ethan is playing the Hotel Cafe tomorrow night… If you’re around I highly recommend seeing him.

I went to the staff meeting at the CRN today…  I like going, they remind me of how radio was when I first started, before we became a huge corporate monster.  We worked on some of the details of our drinking challenge with The Eric and Jack Attack Show… Date to be announced soon.

Aliens in the Attic came out o DVD yesterday… I’m not going to lie, I want to see it.  Dee sent us Transformers 2 , People ragged on it when it came out, but I enjoyed it.  The Foo Fighters greatest hits was also released yesterday, it’s a great collection… Who would have thought it would have been the drummer from Nirvana making great music years later?

She’s not getting Teacher of the Year.  This is so sad, you know the parents did something horrible.  Holy window.  If he can do it, so could Stretch.  Good costume.  Happy 40th Sesame Street.  He needs a Comic Con-Casket.  Your kitty could get swine flu.  Here’s what I can do with my pumpkins. Here’s some more info on China. Hey, I’m not dead.

Rock On, Jack

By the way:  For some unknown reason Word Press is not letting me post photos, so I’ll post some Halloween pics on facebook.
