Summer is here!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Yesterday was the longest day of the year and summer has officially started… The only bummer of my new apartment is no swimming pool.  The kids swimming was getting very strong with all the pool time we got last summer.  My favorite part of this season are the warm nights… there’s nothing like sitting out on a patio on a warm summer night (Unless you live somewhere with a lot of bugs… then you need that bug zapping light thing!)

The new car is amazing… But I have to re-train myself, I keep rolling down the window and opening the door from the outside (That’s how you had to get out of the “Busty Old Car”)  Speaking of the B.O.C., I found a way to hopefully subside some of Lucy’s sadness over getting rid of it… I pried off the emblems and printed out some photos of us with the car and made a shadowbox with them (I’ll have to take a pic and post it, it turned out pretty good) and hung it in the kids room….  Kind of like a shrine to that beat up piece of metal.

I haven’t had a chance to watch much of the summer programming yet… I’ve caught the show with Jillian from Biggest Loser (Didn’t like it) and Last Comic Standing (Like it), but that’s about it so far.  Has anyone seen the new Betty White sit-com?  Any good?

Right now kids shirts are on sale at Threadless … $9 bucks, got Lucy a shark shirt and Bing a cat shirt (They didn’t have any featuring bowling balls or golf balls).  While I’m plugging sites, Gilt has some cool kids stuff on sale too… They always have cool kids stuff, the adult stuff can be kind of pricey, and Groupon is perfect for Non-Diet Stench today with a great BBQ deal.

Farrell’s tomorrow!  Can’t wait to have a sundae… You cannot go to Farrell’s and not have a sundae!!!

I know he’s my kid, so I am a little biased… But I keep rewatching the Bing golfing video, no matter what that kid does he makes me laugh.  When I was a Michael’s getting my shadowbox I picked up some art supplies for Lucy, she is a very talented artist and is now into sketching … If she ever becomes a famous artist I will have the complete early years archive, I have hundreds of drawing and painting shoved everywhere.

I’ve always been super paranoid of this!  I can’t believe I missed this.  Beware of what you say to Rolling Stone… It may get you a quick trip to the President’s office.  What? L.A. didn’t make the list?  Has anyone seen this clown?   A 75M fixer upper.  Yeah, so? At least he’s clean.

Mini-Spring Break

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Our Spring Break was very short, but we made the best of it!  We saw How To Train Your Dragon yesterday, and we all enjoyed it, even Bing.  It is very entertaining for a kids film.  Then we hit the pool…  It was really our first time swimming this year and the kids remembered most of their swim lessons.  I coated them extra thick with sunblock… those kids are extra white after the winter!

Lucy is having a little bit of a hard time with Edison’s passing… It’s hard for most of us to get our heads around death, let alone when we are 6!

I was listening to the radio after dropping off the kids today and I heard one of those AT&T Fios commercials, the ones that promote that you can record a show in one room and watch it in any other room.  I started to think how little televsion has mattered to me in recent years… and I think new technology is partially to blame.   It used to take some effort to insure you saw a show, set the VCR or more recently DVR or make sure you were home and tuned in.  Now there is never a fear of missing out, between DVR’s and the internet you can always find what you missed… And because of that there is no urgency, no excitement.  Now not only do I know if I miss a program I can find it, but if it actually is worth seeing I’ll hear some buzz afterward and I can track it down then.  This year every episode of The Office that I watched was online and only after someone asked if I had seen a scene from it.  Maybe it’s just me, but I guess having something always available actually makes you use it less.

I still haven’t filed my taxes, I have to do it this week!  I have to find someplace to live too! (Thanks for the listings Ms. Heather!)  I have a tendency to put off things I really don’t want to deal with until the last minute… OK, time to jump in!

Just in time for Spring Break!  It’s Back.  Don’t forget to “Like” Jack! (Yes, I’m begging for fans!)  This is horrible. Flipping is making a comeback.  Republican’s like a good spanking too!  Moooommmmmmm!

Two more quick things!!!  One, I’ll be co-hosting The PM Show with Eric Horn on CRN 1 at 4pm Pacific today and two, Can you believe Ricky Martin is gay!?!?

Rocky Start…

Monday, September 21st, 2009

To a new week.  As I mentioned the Lobster Fest was great, but things have gone a little down hill since then.  I guess Lucy is sick, I received a text this morning saying that she was achy, sore and had a 100 degree fever… Always makes you worry, but even more with all this swine flu stuff going around.  The Wi-Fi is still down in my apartment building, not to mention the hot tub is broken and only half full (which seems really dangerous to me, but they didn’t seem to care when I brought that up at the front office!?!?) and there are a bunch of other small problems… They just sold the building to a new company last week and the transition has been less than smooth!  And then there is the constant stress of not being able to find a job… Which has Stretch a little on edge too.  Anyway, enough of my complaining!

Did you watch the Emmy’s?  I watched about a hour, but tired of them and ended up re-watching Donnie Darko (Great movie!) I don’t know if it’s that I’m just not that into TV anymore, or if the show was just too slow paced and gimmicky (come on, visible control room with real “chatter” during the opening transitions and the multiple images on the screen at once… OK, you fooled me, the Emmy’s really are cool.)  In their attempt to be hip I think they have lost focus of the spirit of the awards… But I could be wrong, let me know what you think?

I went for a walk this morning, and I’ve been noticing it for the last month of so, but the city is dirty.  All the dust and dirt of summer has settled on the streets and sidewalks, months of sun baking it in.  We need a cleansing, for the skies to open and wash the city clean again.  There is a feeling in L.A. after a good rain storm, the sky extra blue, the streets rinsed… And the freeways cluttered with fender-benders.

You go naked grandpa!  Well it is football season.  Hoff in the hoffspital! Don’t take her back!  $400K stole from Bill.  Is this your kid?  A good day at the park for this kid.  Coyote ugly.  You are not a stuntman!  Double agent bad guy.
