Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Have a Corona for me, I still have a little more than a week of getting up at 1:30am so no fiesta for me!

It been weird being at work this last week knowing I won’t be here much longer.  People treat you differently, they try to be very positive even though you can tell they’re thinking “oh, crap. what is this guy going to do.”  I’m trying to look at this a positive development, hopefully I will find something with slightly better hours and I can live a more “normal” life.

The podcast is chugging along.   With over a 1000 shows under our belt it continues on.  We just created a new hotline to send texts and voice mails  916-67-BACON… So if there is anything you ever want us to know hit the bacon line!

It seems to me that it is lining up to be a weak movie summer, as I look through all the summer film previews there is not much to be excited about…  I do want to see the Hangover 2 and I hate to see it, but Cowboys v. Aliens looks like it might be interesting.  I’m hoping we get some surprises and there is a reason or two to go to the movies, there is still something more enjoyable about seeing a great film in a theater instead of just popping on the Blu-Ray while the dog barks in the other room and the kids jump on you.

Good News!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

It only took a year and a half, but I have a full time job!  Starting in May I will be the producer of the syndicated Ron Insana Show!  I’m so excited to be back in regular broadcast radio… I love the podcast, but there is just something energizing about working live on-air.

It is so refreshing to have things moving in a positive direction, after two years of divorce hell, things are looking up.

The apartment search continues on, there are actually a lot of options.  I have to figure out where the best location for the kids and me is?  Work is in Valencia and Sunland, the kids are in Venice and most of my friends are in the Burbank/North Hollywood area, I have to find the middle.

The kids and I had a fun weekend… A little Burbank on Parade, some time with friends and we checked out a few apartments.  This upcoming weekend I am semi-kidless (No kids Friday and Saturday), I’m going out to celebrate with my friend who recommended me for the job… Thanks Brian!

I met Mike (in Granada Hills) for some late night tea last night, he has another great opportunity for me that I’m pursuing.  He is such a great guy, He’s one of those people that you’re just always comfortable around.

More good news, Bing told me I’m invited to his birthday party!  I like that he gave me advance notice, I’ll mark it in my daytimer.

One lucky chicken.  Almost ready ladies. Crime fighting photographer! And I’m impressed when my 3 year old says his ABC’s.  Cool Banksy art in L.A.  This package was not the bomb.  Grandma v. Bull… guess who won?  HUH!?!?

Working Man…

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Well, Kind of! I’m working part-time at the CRN.  (Remember, that place Stench and I used to do a show at)  I am their Social Media Marketing Director/Promotions Director… I am excited for a few reasons: 1. I really like everyone their. 2. It’s something different everyday (I get bored). 3. It reminds me of when I started at Star… My friend had hired me to be a production assistant, but slowly I had worked my way into doing all kinds of different stuff, it’s like an adventure.

Stench’s job start has been delayed a week… But all is still a go!!!

The kids and I had a mellow weekend.  Lucy was recovering from illness, so Thursday and Friday it was just me a Bing… We did some of our favorite things: lunch at Panera, walking around the Smart Car and Mini Cooper dealerships, Wii bowling.  Lucy came over Saturday and we watched movies and hung out and Grandmas.  For Valentine’s Grandma got them both real putters, they were very excited… If only for the day, Bowling Girl was Golfing Girl.

I’ve been enjoying the Olympics (Even if they’ve been having a bunch of problems)… Although, I’d still rather have live coverage than the edited down, prime time segments.

They still need 4 million.  Double slapped. This bitch won.  How Tut died.  Keep it fresh.  Support our troops.    Walmart wins.

I promise, longer blogs later this week!

All In The Same Boat

Friday, December 4th, 2009

On the same day that there was encouraging unemployment numbers (Although I have a theory that these numbers are not accurate), I saw this comment on yesterdays blog:

I’m feeling so down today because of my jobless situation.

I don’t know how much longer I can handle this. Applied everywhere and nothing is happening.

It made me sad and mad… because I can totally relate.  There are so many of us out there that bang our heads against the wall everyday trying to find a job and there is just nothing out there.  I personally have been out of work for over a year, have applied for hundreds of jobs (many of which, if I were to get, I would have still been screwed because they didn’t pay enough to cover even my most basic living expenses… But at this point something is better than nothing) and have landed nothing but a collection of rejection letters and emails .  It is an incredible blow to your psyche to not only not be able to support yourself, but your family.  It makes you feel like an outsider in society, where you are no longer a contributing member.  It wears you down, I understand you tvdinner, it is exhausting to be in the middle of such a hopeless situation.  It is one thing to have limited options… a totally different thing to have none.  I wish I could tell you it will get better, and the government would like you to think it is, but I just don’t see any signs yet.  It is a horrible time to be living in when over 10% of us can’t find work and those who are working are either under-employed or live in constant fear that they may not have a job tomorrow.  All I can say tvdinner is you’re not alone, stay strong.

The kids were over last night, fresh back from their trip.  I told you Lucy told me Bing got a hair cut, well he did, and it looks very good, it’s not short, but it’s cleaned up and out of his eyes… And that’s all I cared about, long or short, I just want him to be comfortable.  Lucy started making our holiday decorations, we make our own holiday themed drawings and art projects to put around the apartment.  It was so good to see them, it had only been a little over a week, but it seemed like forever.

There was a notice on my door this morning that I can’t have my BBQ on my balcony, although it said “Charcoal Grill”, so I am hoping that they made a mistake and I’ll be able to keep my gas grill… I use it at least once a week (In fact, I BBQ’d lunch today!)  I never received a copy of my lease, so I can’t look at the rules, I have to go to the office and actually talk to agents…. I hate having to go in there and deal with them, although it took them 3 months to get the pool fixed, so I figure I have 3 months to deal with this issue.

I received the below message from a Facebook friend:

“Jack,
A friend of mine has a daughter, Taylor,  who is my daughters age (4 1/2) who has Leukemia.  She has been to hell and back over this past year.  It looks like her dad is going to lose his job tomorrow morning therefore leaving them without health insurance.  Taylor’s mom just got a job and her health benefits won’t kick in until March.  They are going to need to do COBRA insurance for Taylor and all of her treatments.
We are trying to get her story out there and see if anyone can help.  I know, with the economy the way it is, there are MANY people out there in similar situations.  But, I think we all need to band together and help this poor, brave little girl.  We are hoping that even if people could donate $3, $4, or $5 (think of it as one trip to Starbucks) that we can help them survive until their health insurance kicks in again in March.
I have seen firsthand how great/powerful/helpful the Jack Army can be, so hopefully people can do something to help.  Even if people can’t donate, just getting her story out there means more prayers and positive thoughts for this little girl…that alone is worth a million bucks!

Here is a short video of her story

And here is a link to her mom’s blog

Thank You very much!!!”

So if anyone out there can help, please let her know.
